Vancouver is a cycling city. While the rest of the country battles extremes in weather and temperature, we suit up in our favourite gear and slay the North Shore single track, blast through rush hour on our commuter trips, enjoy leisurely latte-fuelled cruiser rides, drop the hammer on the road, and much more. To celebrate such an iconic activity in an iconic city, we created the 'UpCycled' Bicycle Wedding Arch. Fabricated from raw steel and dozens of re-purposed bicycle chain rings, it is a beautiful representation of feminine and masculine perfection (in our minds). Available to celebrate your special day. We were tasked with creating a team building challenge / dinner event for the international executives of Amer Sports (parent company of Arc'teryx). They were looking for an authentic Canadian experience, had a few 'outside the box' ideas, wanted to push the comfort level of their team, and weren’t afraid to get dirty hands. Corinne spent several summers tree planting in her youth and always planned the company year end bush party. After a great exploratory meeting, we sketched out a team building experience encompassing many of the ideas from a classic treeplanter party. The Great Canadian Cabin Party Team Building Challenge was born. After spending a few days in conference rooms in Whistler, Amer executives were bussed to a remote cabin where they were tasked with setting up their party using interesting but limited supplies. A pit fire, snowbank full of beer, whole salmon on ice, and live crabs greeted the group as they arrived. Teams were organized, and the hard, yet fun, and super focused work began. A fantastic dinner was created utilizing a wood stove and open fire without any recipes. The cabin was thoroughly decorated with old Christmas lights, candles, and fabric. The talent show was fall over hilarious followed by a crazy carpet relay race that topped off an evening to remember. Surprising skills and talents revealed themselves. The clients objectives were to pull a group of their core executives outside of their comfort zone, shake things up, and come out a stronger, more comfortable team than when they went in. Mission accomplished in true Canadian 'hoser' style. BIG THANKS! Everyone totally enjoyed themselves and all of them thanked me for everything again and again. It’s definitely going down in the history books for sure!!! Believe me, I’m calling you guys first next time. - Tammy Hampson, Manager Tradeshows & Events, Arc'teryx More photos If you're a fan of outdoor adventure, then be sure to check out the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival 2011 Fall Series, a 3-day special festival edition featuring world class local and international guest speakers and films. One of their fundraising programs is the annual Duke Ellington concert at Andrew’s-Wesley United Church. It's an event we can't recommend enough and if you enter the concert knowing little about the Dukes music, you'll leaving wishing you had been introduced sooner. DUKE ELLINGTON’S SACRED MUSIC
